About Terracarb

Terracarb is an award-winning IIT Kanpur-incubated deep-tech company working on solving challenges related to graphene production. Graphene is a carbon-based 2D nanomaterial, which is often touted as the wonder material of the 21st century. It offers an exquisite mix of electrical, thermal, mechanical, barrier and flame-retardant properties, when dosed in a very low quantity (<1 wt%) in situ, during the manufacturing of several industrial commodities like concrete, paints and coatings, elastomers, thermosets, thermoplastics, energy storage, fiber-reinforced composites, technical textiles, lubricants and greases.

We believe that the fundamental properties of Graphene make it an excellent candidate for reducing scope 2 & 3 emissions in the context of new materials manufacturing, since it accounts for 27% of the current global CO2 footprint. However, in order to achieve this at scale, the technology for manufacturing should be of low-capex, low-carbon in terms of the lifecycle of Graphene production, repeatable, infinitely scalable while maintaining the material’s quality in addition to providing enough scope to tune the physical and chemical properties of produced Graphene.

Terracarb has pioneered a technology platform with the above characteristics, based on a proprietary in-plane chemical exfoliation method for producing Graphene. This production process yields functionalized Graphene dispersions, which are compliant with the current global standards for graphene quality (ISO/TC 21356). Founded in 2019 and headquartered in Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, Terracarb is one of India’s largest manufacturers of Graphene Nanoplatelets today, with an annual production capacity of 120 tons.
